February 7-9, 2013. The North Carolina Jazz Festival performance roster reads like a jazz who's who's who. Thursday night's special event concert "Styles of Jazz" will present Jazz Strings opening with legendary guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli and the young violin prodigy Jonathan Russell, followed by Frank Bongiorno With Strings in a tribute to Charlie Parker With Strings. After a short intermission, the ballroom will be filled with the sounds of New Orleans by Banu Gibson's Hot Jazz. This is a three hour concert.
Friday and Saturday nights' four and one-half hour concerts feature fifteen Jazz all-stars - Banu Gibson, Bucky Pizzarelli, Jonathan Russell, Dan Levinson, David Sager, Kerry Lewis, Randy Reinhart, Kevin Dorn, David Boeddinghaus, Rossano Sportiello, Adrian Cunningham, Nicki Parrott, Bria Skonberg, Chuck Redd and Ed Polcer - playing in seven sets each night with a different leader for each set. All performances begin at 7:30 PM at the Wilmington Hilton Riverside ballroom.
Ticket prices for Thursday night's concert are $35 for general admission, $25 for military and $15 for students. Tickets for the Friday and Saturday shows cost $50 for general admission, $25 for military, and $15 for students. Patron tickets cost $175, including Friday and Saturday concerts plus a patron jazz brunch at 10:30 AM Saturday. Patrons also receive preferred, reserved seating and their names appear in the program. The $200 patron tickets include all festival shows.
