National Maritime Day

State Port at Wilmington
Wilmington, NC
(800) 334-0682
May 22, 2019 Each year, the North Carolina State Ports Authority and the Port of Wilmington Propeller Club observe National Maritime Day with a wreath memorial ceremony to honor U.S. Merchant Mariners. The 11 AM event happens at the Veterans Memorial in Riverfront Park, downtown Wilmington, adjacent to Hilton Wilmington Riverside. National Maritime Day is a United States holiday created to recognize the maritime industry. It is observed on May 22, the date that the American steamship Savannah set sail from Savannah, Ga., on the first ever transoceanic voyage under steam power. The holiday was created by the United States Congress on May 20, 1933.
