For residents throughout the region, New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NHRMC) offers the best features of welcoming, patient-centered care combined with next-generation medicine. New Hanover Regional Medical Center has inpatient and outpatient locations throughout the area including the main campus on 17th Street and Cape Fear Hospital on Wrightsville Avenue in Wilmington. Pender Memorial Hospital in Burgaw and NHRMC Home Care are also affiliated with NHRMC. In addition, NHRMC is the parent organization of the NHRMC Physician Group with more than 100 primary and specialty care providers in multiple practices throughout the region.

NHRMC's main campus is a teaching hospital and tertiary referral center. Originally built in 1967, the hospital has recently undergone a significant expansion and upgrade with the addition of the new 186,500-square-foot Surgical Pavilion and the 150-bed Betty H. Cameron Women's & Children's Hospital. Fully renovated in 2010, NHRMC's inpatient tower offers all-private rooms with all-new interiors, creating generous and comfortable space for family, friends and loved ones.

Cape Fear Hospital has also been upgraded in recent years, including complete renovation and expansion of its Post Anesthesia Care Unit, or PACU, and construction of an additional oeprating room. Cape Fear Hospital is the primary home of NHRMC's nationally recognized orthopedic program. This facility also offers a 24-hour emergency department, inpatient and outpatient surgery, respiratory therapy, rehabilitation medicine, radiology services and laboratory services.

New Hanover Regional Medical Center is the ninth-largest healthcare system in the state and the largest employer in the region, with a team of more than 4,700 employees, 540 physicians and 800 volunteers.

Betty H. Cameron Women's & Children's Hospital - Redefining the boundaries of innovation in the field of women's and children's care, the Betty H. Cameron Women's & Children's Hospital's models of care, technology, architecture and interior design all reflect bold new thinking in bringing care for women, newborns and children to the next level. The hospital features all-private rooms with space for the patient and family. The hospital offers obstetrical care for routine and high-risk deliveries and welcomes more than 4,000 new lives each year. In addition, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit cares for babies born premature or critically ill. The Betty H. Cameron Women's & Children's Hospital also has the only pediatric unit and pediatric intensive care unit in the region. Women admitted to the hospital needing gynecological treatment, including gynecological oncology, are also cared for in the Betty H. Cameron Women's & Children's Hospital.

Heart Center- A key element in NHRMC's role as a preeminent heart center is its open-heart surgery program, the only such program in the region. Advances in both traditional open-heart procedures and less invasive or minimally invasive techniques have revolutionized the treatment of heart disease. NHRMC's cardiovascular physicians stay at the forefront of breakthroughs in surgical techniques as well as new diagnostic and treatment technologies. The Heart Center houses a 16-bed Coronary Care Unit, a 14-bed Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit as well as cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology and cardiovascular labs. The Heart Center also includes the Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programs, which offer classes on nutrition and stress management, as well as exercise classes monitored by registered nurses and exercise physiologists.

Orthopedic Center - Ranked in the top 10 percent of all orthopedic facilities nationally, New Hanover Regional Medical Center Orthopedic Center at Cape Fear Hospital offers both inpatient and outpatient surgical services for patients with problems with their muscles, joints, bones, ligaments, tendons and nerves. Close to 2,000 joint replacements are performed annually at the NHRMC Orthopedic Center.

Health and Diagnostics-  New Hanover Regional Medical Center offers advanced diagnostic radiology services at many locations throughout the region to provide residents with sophisticated diagnosis and treatments close to home.  Services include Interventional Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, CT scans, MRI, Digital Mammography, Bone Mineral Density Testing and Ultrasound. 

Zimmer Cancer Center– New Hanover Regional Medical Center's cancer program has been nationally designated as an Academic Comprehensive Cancer Program by the American College of Surgeon's Commission on Cancer. Its Zimmer Cancer Center includes physician specialists in medical, surgical and gynecologic cancers, an infusion unit for chemotherapy, a radiation oncology department and a Cancer Research Program that offers patients access to new therapies for the treatment and prevention of cancer. Patients with cancer also benefit from an extensive support system that includes nutrition counseling, pharmacy, social care and complementary therapies. Patients also benefit from inpatient treatment areas designed to make long stays more comfortable with private patient rooms and space for family members to stay and provide support.

Trauma and Emergency Medical Services– New Hanover Regional Medical Center’s Emergency Services Department is highly integrated to help ensure patients get the best care possible. It includes the region’s only Level II Trauma Center and Emergency Departments at NHRMC, Cape Fear Hospital and Pender Memorial Hospital. It also incorporates New Hanover Regional EMS, which operates the region’s paramedic service as well as a critical care transport system with VitaLink mobile intensive care units and AirLink, an air ambulance service. Widely recognized for its outstanding level of care, New Hanover Regional Medical Center EMS was named North Carolina's first model system.

Rehabilitation Services– New Hanover Regional Medical Center Rehabilitation Services includes a CARF-accredited, 60-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital and outpatient therapies for adults and children. The outpatient locations, which include Independence Rehabilitation, Oleander Rehabilitation and Pender Health & Diagnostics - Rocky Point, provide different services that include therapy for patients with orthopedic, musculoskeletal and neurological conditions, as well as children with developmental delays. Pool therapy is among the therapies used at Oleander Rehabilitation.

Spine Center– From the most common to the most complex, the New Hanover Regional Medical Center Spine Center treats a variety of back, neck and spine disorders. Neurologic and orthopedic surgeons experienced in diagnosing and treating everything from traumatic injuries to chronic disorders work with dedicated healthcare providers to customize both short- and long-term treatment plans. Patients hospitalized for brain and spinal injuries, stroke, multiple sclerosis, ALS, Alzheimer's disease and seizures related to neurological disorders are often cared for in NHRMC's Neuroscience Unit.

Surgery– A wide range of surgical specialists perform inpatient and outpatient surgery at each of NHRMC's hospital campuses. Surgery at New Hanover Regional Medical Center is performed in the Surgical Pavilion, a technologically advanced environment that allows specially trained surgeons to perform minimally invasive surgeries, including using the da Vinci™ S robotic surgical system.

Behavioral Health Hospital – A psychiatric crisis stabilization hospital, New Hanover Regional Medical Center’s Behavioral Health Hospital offers inpatient psychiatric programs for adults with mental health disorders.

NHRMC Home Care- NHRMC Home Care offers services to residents in eight counties in southeastern North Carolina. Services include skilled nursing, physical, occupational and speech therapy, infusion therapy, wound care and diabetes management. The service has been recognized as one of the country's top home-care providers through HomeCare Elite™.

NHRMC Physician Group - With more than 100 providers in both primary care and specialty fields, the NHRMC Physician's Group's doctors can focus on providing the best maedical care to their patients while benefiting from the shared resources of New Hanover Regional Medical Center. New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation – The Foundation exists to generate philanthropic support for special projects, equipment, staff education and patient care that would be difficult, perhaps impossible, to fund from the hospital’s operations budget alone. The Foundation works with donors to choose how their gift can have the biggest impact in the area of their choosing. The Foundation also organizes special events to fund programs that support cancer, heart disease and other initiatives that directly affect the lives of the community NHRMC serves.
