Owner/chef Mary Long brings gourmet Southern food traditions to Wilmington at The Basics. Long moved to Wilmington in 2007 and immediately began looking for a restaurant spot to bring southern soul food traditions to the city. Using fresh vegetables and fruits that thrive in our climate and incorporating cultural traditions from Africa, France, England and the native Americans, Long's cafe serves comfort food with a twist to the masses. The menu includes items such as blueberry oatmeal pancakes, Carolina cobb salad, fried okra and much more. The atmosphere is comfortable and casual, but with cloth napkins and a sense of the upscale. Everything is homemade and the produce is fresh and local. The restaurant is open seven days per week, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner Mon-Fri, brunch and dinner on Saturday, and brunch on Sunday.
