Established in 1974 as a nonprofit organization specializing in dramas by minority playwrights, the Willis Richardson Players perform several works per season of interest to all audiences. Their name honors Wilmington born (1889-1977) playwright, director,, teacher and magazine contributor Willis Richardson. The group strives to promote, involve and educate residents of the Wilmington area in the performing arts through African-American theater and to bridge the cultural gap. They perform at Thalian Hall Center for Performing Arts.
