A resident of The Cotton Exchange for 39 years, The Golden Gallery is truly a family affair with Mary Ellen Golden's original watercolors and giclee prints depicting Wilmington landmarks and southeastern North Carolina scenery, photography and digital illustrations by son John W. Golden and music by husband John C. Golden. All are well-known and collected by visitors and residents alike. A watercolorist since 1975, Mary Ellen shares her techniques and tips in a DVD while John W's illustrations are seen on many venues, including television.

Mary Ellen's husband, John C. Golden, a songwriter and storyteller, is noted for his songs about coastal Carolina's legends, folklore, characters and events. CDs of these ballads and sea songs are available at the gallery. His most recent CDs are "The Fall of Fort Fisher", "Colonial Songs and Scottish Ballads", "The Battle at Moore's Creek", "Back into the '50s", Vol. 2, "Golden Oldies", Vol. 4, and a storytelling CD, "Stories from the Cape of Fear" featuring local legends and ghost stories. John is constantly adding to his gallery of CDs.

Fine-art photography of local landmarks are son John W. Golden's specialty, and many of his altered Rovinato prints are on display. His work has been licensed internationally and his dogs and BOTM signs are featured in many national catalogs. The Golden Gallery is home to Wilmington's largest collection of local art and photography. You can browse for hours.
