There's only one place in Wilmington where you can enjoy a high-level, high-energy baseball game during the summer - a Wilmington Sharks game. The Wilmington Sharks are one of 14 teams in the Coastal Plain League, a summer collegiate baseball league featuring players from top college programs around the country. The level of competition is said to be comparable to that of minor league baseball.
Facing teams from North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia, the Sharks play 60 regular season games, with 28 being home games at Legion Stadium, which attract around 1,800 fans per game. The season starts around Memorial Day and is capped by a best-of-three championship playoff in mid-August.
The games are an exciting blend of fun events and sports entertainment. You can grab hot dogs, pizza and chicken between innings, and there are always great weekly promotions.
